A quick reminder that anyone who wants an annual turnover greater than £85k is 'brave', because that's the VAT threshold and you really don't want to have to charge that or be caught not doing so.
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

But that would be assuming you were charging the same rates and doing mostly short bookings - one of the reasons these 'average' figures don't make any sense without context is because the disparities between those that earn most and leaast are so incredibly huge, both in terms of what they earn and how they earn it. I couldn't do it at my rates either, but if I was doing overnights regularly and charging more per hour I can see how it would rack up (and ditto for somebody charging less buy with the energy and discipline to work all the hours God sends).

The Beyond The Gaze interview question was about earnings/how much we took, not what happened to it afterward. There was a separate question about what we paid out, IIRC - if it wasn't then their figures will be all over the place because that's certainly the answer they got from me and pretty much everybody I know who mentioned taking part.

Can we keep it general and stick to the OP's question rather than just posting how much we've earned? It makes others uncomfortable and never goes well :)
Definitely regarding my rates and if I did overnighters etc but I really don’t care as long as it’s over £25k full time otherwise I’d get a normal job.

So true, It would kill me having to pay 40% tax as well, thats another reason i would not work myself to the bone x

Indeed - given the large number of very part time people earning far less and the relatively miniscule number earning squillions, I suspect it's not far off at all.

Also bear in mind that 'average' means all the figures added together and divided by the number of people asked, so if one person earns £100K and another £100 quid, the average earnings would be £50.05K which nobody actually earned. It's an extremely blunt instrument.

The Beyond The Gaze book is called Internet Sex Work and on Amazon, if anybody wants to read the full research findings. I have it somewhere :)

if only it wasn't 39.99 I've not earned enough this tax year to account for that extravagance, especially after subscribing to amazon prime. I think someone has been snooping in my tax records again.

Well, you forget majority of escorts are single mums and students, which means they cannot set 40 working hours a week for escorting.

Another thing that escorts are also street workers and the rate then is not £130ph, plus not everyone lives in major cities where you can charge £130ph

then there is this quote: "Around 73 per cent were women, 19 per cent male, three per cent transgender and three per cent non-binary or intersex." male escorts can charge way less, that's where all the calculation happens

I don't keep records of my earnings but I feel that every other full time escort makes more than me judging by the fact that they all seem to be able to afford Bayswater, Earl's Court etc and a ton of plastic surgery. Maybe it's because I don't top, maybe I'm too fat, maybe my voice sucks on the phone, I don't know.

How are you keeping track of how much tax you need to be paying if you don’t keep records of your earnings??...

I don't understand "not keeping a record of earnings" in this job. I know what I earn to the last penny on a daily/weekly/monthly basis and could not imagine having no idea how much is coming in.

I think she doesn't pay tax but even so, not keeping track of how much you earn is very irresponsible thing to do.

From browsing other threads seems the amount of coronavirus compensation for the self employed depends partly on tax returns-so seems useful to know your yearly wage at this time.

Link says that the average wage for sex work is £20,000. Do you think this is true?!
I believe that. Many are part timers and nothing to do with how much sex workers charge. There's people charging £100 an hour making more than £20k a year and those charging £500 an hour making less than £20k a year.

I don't keep records of my earnings but I feel that every other full time escort makes more than me judging by the fact that they all seem to be able to afford Bayswater, Earl's Court etc and a ton of plastic surgery. I'd go mad if I didn't keep records of my earnings. How would you know your profit and losses? I've advertised on so many different sites I need daily record of my advert expenses.

back in the mid 2000's I did this full time for nearly three years, worked out the average over those three years was 64k net

It wasnt easy and it went against what i do this for freedom and to let me do what I want. I was focused and worked on building a client base and marketing myself on three guises, sensual massage, full body sex and the third guies was just a regular escort. picking the best fruit from the crops and working darn hard it is possible to make decent money, all my expenses was off of that total so that was profit. but i toured and organised the meets meticuliously so that I was getting maximum profit from those tours.

When you were touring how many nights a week did anybody stay away?  I am curious as I will hopefully be touring regularly from next summer latest.  Staying away no more than 2 nights weekly.  Worst comes to the worst I will use serviced apartments rather than hotels ..  There is no way I can tour full time like that.  I just couldn't leave my own bed/home/son etc.
