Watched mi first British Film, Poppie Shakespeare....

Great movie, kinda sad...came out last year.

I just found it amazing though, and I know this is going to sound 'ignorant' LOL...but Poppy (the star, a Black woman) doesn't even sound like how (majority) of Black women over here sound LOL. And the British language seems to skip over letters like V. Instead of saying government, its pronounced ga-ermen LOL....

The good news? I had no trouble understanding the dialect. Im pretty good at understanding people's accents, guess that means I'll fare okay to a tour to U.K.  :D

Pronunciation is heavily influenced by regional origin, as well as attitude and can vary widely, so don't lump us all in the same boat.

Well excuuuuuse me...I wasnt lumping anyone into the same boat. I was relating to how the people in the movie sounded. I am perfectly aware of the regional differences of accents and the pronounciations. However, one must realize that the accents of the U.S. and Britain different enough to the point where its much easier to pick up on those differences.

I thought the accent was funny in a sexy kind of way. I wasnt bashing it. This was not a racial-bashing thread. Sheesh!

I personally thing the regional accents in the UK are far more extreme then the US regionals for such a small space.

Glad you enjoyed (and 'got') the film Joey x

I am begging (you to allow me) to differ  :D

In many states, the accents can differ within the same state. New Yorkers and Bostonians have a different tone although people tend to lump 'northerners' into a category and 'southerners as well'. Thats just one example.

I think it has to do with where one is coming from. Unless you've lived in that country/part of the world and others, may be hard to 'catch on' to a difference in accent in a different language.

Did that make sense  ;)
