We just joined IUSW - International Union of Sex Workers.
Just wondered if anyone else on Saafe is a member and if they have been helped by Catherine and the team there???
-
I've joined!! But not using my real name OR work name, as some people who are very against us and the idea of our having a union cannot be relied upon not to use dirty tricks against our members. I know a few people who are members and have done this as well.
I am really happy I have joined, apart from the feeling of being connected and having that extra support, I also like feeling I have some direction to get involved as an activist (And beyond that your union card gets you some lovely perks).

Yes, and am involved in activism albeit under another name like Evie. It's small, and very London-centric IMO, but have met some great people and found it very worthwhile. Don't join under your name if you want to come to the attention of the abolitionist types (some of whom I suspect have also joined).
Catherine Stephens is a great lady and been a prossie/pro domme for years, as well as the lady many of us will have seen being a talking head on all sorts of daytime TVposts on here (and also one of the nicest people I have ever met). She posts on here occasionally and I would urge all working ladies (and gents) to join.

Glad to see you guys have found your way there. I have been involved with unions for years and they are a good thing. The fact the IUSW is part of the GMB makes people take them seriously as well.
I hope to go to some meetings very soon.

I had the pleasure of meeting Catherine the other night in Glasgow where she was speaking at a debate.
She's a lovely lady and the very definition of "Grace under fire."

Hi All
Anyone know if the IUSW has a Belfast branch?

I'm just curious, I never realised there was a union...what are those perks? Seriously, can you be a member under a pseudonym and be an effective activist? This has fascinated me.

Have a look on www.iusw.info
They are part of the GMB which does cover Northern Ireland as far as I am aware
