Another timewaster thread/rant....
« on: 06 May 2010, 10:45:07 am »
Just fancied a rant about timewasters.... why is it that they enquire about a booking and follow it up with more emails/calls and then cancel at the last minute or, worst of all, not show up?!! Why oh why oh why?!!

You wouldn't expect it in any other profession so why do some guys think it's ok to do it to us? You can't imagine your bank manager being, solicitor or even friends being impressed if you arranged to meet with them and not show up without evening telling them!

Grr.... dickheads!

You're completely right. Unfortunately, a lot of men think secksylaydeez don't have brains/aren't really people.

I made a graph about it though to cheer you up ;D

Some people, quite a few do cancel without letting the person know in other professions.  We do however get a lot more of it - sometimes because the chap is genuinely nervous/having second thoughts. Trouble is we can't distinguish those from the w@ankers and those who think we just don't matter.

Funniest part is when they ring 3 months later and you won't hold an appointment for them - they insist they did let you know or even that it wasn't them making the appointment.

Im not saying you are wrong...but I dont buy that. Reason being is because they turn right back around and do it over and over again.

For example, on my way to my tour city...guy calls and books for 6:30. I arrive, give him the hotel address, and then he says, "sorry its too late, meeting a friend for dinner at 7. Obviously, that wasn't enough time for an hour booking. Then, he books me again for 9 that night and turns right back around and says, "sorry, still out with friends". By that time I didnt give a shit because I had a 2 hour booking awaiting at the Hilton before he texted me that.

They just like to make life difficult for us. I protected myself because I knew he was going to cancel, and so I didnt lose anything by him doing so. The graph chart that Emily made is very good indication. That particular guy spent about 4-5 minutes on the phone with me.

Aw, thanks Joey - charts are science, doncha know. ;D

This forum has been such a help with dealing with timewasters and I'm currently focusing on making sure I keep 'Good Client' numbers saved with suitable keywords in my phone so I can remember which Mark/John/Tom it is and how to treat them extra-lovely, and obviously timewasters and weirdos saved in a way which records exactly what they did and when. It's hard with such a crappy old Nokia so I think I'm going to need a new phone that allows rigorous note-attaching to every saved contact! Anyway, the thing is to cultivate the good guys and shower them with affection whenever they do anything right. Not that men are like dogs, or anything. :P (Had a face-licker last week, though!)

It does happen in other industries though. A cosmetic surgeon i'm familiar with (not in a carnal way or a snip snip way jusssst yet;) )  mentioned he had to start charging an up front deposit for consultations- as He was receiving so many either

 When his consultations were free,

 A) People making appointments, asking lots and lots of questions and many phone calls about 'whats it like' and then showing up to waste time and had no genuine interest but rather wanted to see the before and after pictures.

 B) As above, but not bothering to show up at all.

They'd also then try to rebook and go through the entire thing again and again.

Apparently even got the 'If I'm impressed I'll tell my friends to see you' type of line too. Got so bad he had to start charging for the initial appointment.

People who want to go through the fantasy of something with no intention to do so.... TW's are around for everything I think...So annoying :)

Is there any reason why plastic surgeons'/surgery clinics' websites are all mostly identical with the same text and same before & after pictures but different muted-yet-inspirational colour schemes? I'm honestly curious and quite jealous as I'd like to quiz a real surgeon about these things! Ideally not in a rude way right before a procedure, but yanno, probably right afterwards when I was still anaesthetic-drunk. Anyway, surely they could save a bit of time in wasted consultations by watermarking and uploading all their recent real pictures? Or do you need extensive permission contract-y things from the patients (even if faces aren't shown)?

That is true. In fact, I just finished a customer service class and the book even mentions timewasters...Not referring to escorting!

It specifically stated not to allow a customer take up so much of your time asking questions that you miss out on other customers.

Unfortunently, with our line of work...it can be that much annoying. It also tends to cost us more. You can lose upwards of $600 or more over a timewaster (Emily, get your graph out!).

For example, a while back I had a client contact me for a 4 hour booking for later that day. Although he was genuine and showed up, had I not taken advanced bookings and then a TW called me for around the same time...It may have compromised the situation. Dont let them!

I have to say, Im dealing with a pestering timewaster who constantly emails me (doesnt call). This has been going on for months and I've even blocked him on several occassions but either I changed emails or something....

but today he had the balls to email me again for something else. It just really annoys me that people constantly bug me over and over again. And when I acknowledged his email, I didnt answer his question about whether I am in a house or apartment and instead said, "do you have an idea of when you're wanting to meet?" He couldn't even send a reply.

Normally I dont get too irritated, but this particular guy annoys me to no end. Its like, I blocked his ass before...must have changed screenames or something. Im tired of him hitting me up and I even told him off before.

I think its a nut, or a weirdo or pyscho or something. I cant stand people like that.

I was meaning normally I dont get too irritated over someone constantly emailing me. But the fact that he eludes the block function I've used boggles me. There's also a similar guy who changes emails constantly, but its always the same name with just an extra number of letter...but I dont even get down to saying a word to him because one time he got mad when I told him I wouldn't be doing a damn thing for $50.

There was time, I would give benefit of the doubt, but since having a Blackberry, not a snow balls chance in hell. I will get the same standardized text from the same bunch of wankers every time I am in town. One day, I was PMT-ing, and forwarded all the stupid texts I had from one idiot, back to him, funny I don't hear from him anymore
