Documentary charting the day-to-day workings of a Sheffield
massage parlour run by a mother and daughter, revealing the
struggle to fill the daily rota and how management deal with problem clients.
The programme also explores the lives of the women who advertise their
services and for whom sex is just a job. An extraordinarily frank look inside
a rarely seen world, with unprecedented access to all areas of this unusual
family business, with contributions from the working girls and their customers

Oh thanks, I didn't notice this on my guide! I saw the last one about the porn stars/high class call girls in London. Then they were both on "this morning", Philip Scofield was piqued as usual! Wonder if these Sheffield ladies will be on there too? Very informative now is day time TV. "Vagacials" -Vagina Facials being completed a few months ago!

Supposedly it won't, and the reason I know that is because I was originally supposed to be in it. I bailed after it became clear that their steps to protect anonymity couldn't stretch as far as disguising my voice, but I know one of the researchers from something else and I can definitely say they meant well and were trying hard to make it a pretty standard format fly-on-the-wall type thing in the manner of the Girlfriend Experience play from a few years ago (for anybody that saw it).
Whether or not the editorial team did once they got their hands on the footage I have no idea. I doubt it.

Only complaint is that the premises looks tired and needs a lick (hehe) of paint. But I have no points of reference to compare this brothel to, having never worked in one. YET. 8)

It was a touch boring but perhaps a necessary insight for the nation - that girls are usually pretty together and punters are usually pretty normal.

The Irish woman is Glasgow Laura Lee. I don't think she *actually* works there - I think she worked some shifts for this programme in order to speak on behalf of sex workers. As she's very eloquent I thought she came off well.

Were the wigs supposed to hide their identity? Didn't work very well, maybe masks too would have helped. Rates are a bit cheap :o 30 quid for half an hour, or do they add prices on in the room?

He was the old, white-haired man in a cap. If you google McCoys Guide and George McCoy and look at images you'll see his photo.
I think the half hour was normally 40 but they have a "happy hour" on Friday where it's ?10 less. I'm not sure how much of the fee the ladies keep but they also get to charge for extra services in the room.
I'd be annoyed as hell by clients coming in just to sit down and chat with a cup of tea.
I thought it was pretty funny when they read out the prize winners and third prize was some guy named James who works in a funeral parlour. They all wrinkled their noses and said "Oh, I hate him... old pervert." As someone said on Twitter: "All funeral parlour workers in the Sheffield area named James are now red-faced."

I was shocked by her trying to guilt trip that women into doing it for free!! Any agency I've worked with that do competitions pay the girl (out of her commission) what she would have earned, so the agency are donating the money not the poor girl! That was extremely bad

No, the adult parent of one. Who also - amongst other things - saw fit to tell a seven year old child that her mother has AIDS and wll die soon, if memory serves.
Back to the TV programme now folks, please. If the lady concerned wants to discuss her personal business here, I've no doubt she'll come along and do it.

Well it definitely didn't look like she was putting the money back into the business or at least not much of it.
I did think she would be better getting good sturdy divans if bedsteads keep getting broke.
And definitely wouldn't allow clients just to hang about having a cuppa (unless they paid some sort of social rate).

Yes that's why I refused to see him. He admitted it to me on the phone, if my memory serves me, was a few years ago. Fee in lieu of a listing & review. He already had my details on his website but I think this was for the printed version that gets sold in sex toy shop, dunno where else ??? they sell the magazine? Probably a few threads on here about him. I called him out on another forum.

And nor has it ever been; 'immoral earnings' is not a legal term and the previous offence concerned living off the earnings of prostitution, at least before it all went to the wall some twelve years ago. Nevertheless, it's always nice to see this old chestnut gone over one more time.
As for McCoy, a quick search will bring up plenty of stuff on here - if he was there posing as an everyday Sheffield punter who happened to be passing then the producers must think we're all bloody stupid. Then again, of course they do.

Having met him, all I can say is thank fuck he isn't :).
From the sound of it I daresay they had little or no luck getting actual locals to appear so had to ring round the usual suspects, including me. The trouble is, when the general public realise one or some aspects have been carefully engineered and choreographed it loses any credibility the rest of it would have had, which seems a shame if the rest was pretty accurate.

These girls charge ?30, ?40 and ?50?? This seems very low plus I assume they need to give a cut to the madam. The door fee goes to the madam as well.
Am I missing something? They are advertising for girls, but what exactly IS the attraction?? ::)

some parlour girls earn loads as in lots of places everything is extra
ie on a half hour they may get 30 after paying out then charge a extra 10 for owo 10 for cim 40 for anal 10 ro 10 kissing 20 water sports etc ( all places are different ) so end up the same as indies + and they can do more clients as the receptionist answers phone lets them in and out does all other tasks and knock on door when they go over no gaps if busy some girls do
15+ a day .....each to their own and no worrying they will get thrown out by hotel >.< no bills just pay as you go earnings

Not just no bills, but no advertising or silly phone calls/emails to worry about and no concern about punters knowing where you live/where your incall is, or being alone with somebody you don't know. Plus company and somebody else to deal with the idiots, and the laundry :D.
There's a lot to be said for being able to just turn up for your shift, work and go home again afterwards :).

Just watched it and found mum and daughter to be really likeable. Irish girl was pretty cool too. In fact they all seemed liked decent enough sorts.
Thought it quite interesting and loved it being portrayed as just a job.

Did they say how much the women can charge for the actual service when they get in the room? If you could set your own prices it might work out ok. I'd never thought of touring in brothels before, it's something to think about. I like the camaraderie :)

I'm pretty sure the prices are fairly standard parlour rates for that part of the world, or they were when I looked at their website. The idea the owner had had was to try renting a room out touring ladies if they didn't want to use a hotel, and the way I was told it was that you could take the parlour clients at parlour rate if you wanted (or not), and/or advertise as normal to get your own too (presumably at what ever rate you usually charged).
I didn't think it would work, not just because of the two-tier rates but because punters booking an independent lady for an incall won't be happy about being directed to the local sauna (if they wanted to go to a parlour they would have done so) but that was the plan :).

There was a parlour elsewhere that did that - or was it the same one. They advertised on here. I thought it was Grimsby or someplace like that.

As for sharing it with your daughter, as a lone parent, it's rather hard not to isn't it? When you are together 24/7 and absolutely reliant on each other, I think honesty is the only way. Although my daughter was 12 when I told her. I think you have to address the 'if' anything happened to me, she would be an absolute wreck knowing I had kept something from her, because our relationship is so close.
At least it's one documentary that showed sex workers/punters without glamourising the job. Oh for the glamour of that jacuzzi though!

One thing they did clarify was that girls had to advertise at THE PARLOUR's rates so even with extras I've done the math and it doesn't add up to our indie hourly rates.
I can understand why they didn't discuss pricing as their 'entertainment license' is for massage only and 'extras' would be technically breaking the law I assume PLUS I could have been a reporter or some other nosey bod riding on the back of the documentary.
I loved the camaraderie but just couldn't afford to work for those prices. Pity :-[

I don't watch these documentaries as when my work day is over I don't want to be reminded of anything to do with work. Also no matter how hard they try they will never capture exactly what it's like to be in this business day in day out.
From what I've heard from other girls they normally complain it's all sensationalised and not 'true-to-life' well it can't ever be because the people they interview will always play up to the cameras in some way.

I think it showed prostitution as it is, day to day mundane. I can't imagine there's a vast difference (other than financial) between North and South.

Please don't assume I am in any way racist, because I have lived in Yorkshire and have friends there, it is different and lovelier for that.
I also love Alan Bennett by the way, but you couldn't ever say he was like a southerner, his whole being is 'yorkshireman' isn't it? That was the point I am getting at. I should have explained myself fully.

I was on holiday last week so only just seen this on channel 4 on demand.
The documentary was okay but what really made it was the people involved, the mother in particular was HILARIOUS!
The way she pronounced some things and the line at the end almost killed me. When they asked her about her own sex life she replied,
"I guess it's a bit like working at a fish and chip shop...you'd soon go off fish and chips!"

Was Laura Lee the Irish one? She seemed really nice. Very switched on. Watching that programme made me nostalgic for the brothel life but I'm not sure ahout going back to those prices...

Deep down I believe that nothing good comes out from being involved in an illegal operation and flaunting it on the media. But that's just me.
I remember this escort in New York who appeared in the cover of the New York magazine stating how she made 10,000$ a month. 3 Months later her and the agency she worked for got busted. And the police department made sure the raid made big lines on the News. Ok, I know, this is England (not the US) but local authorities in general don't like to have certain stuff rubbed on their faces. It makes them look bad.

The location of this parlour (the Soho of Sheffield) isn't really residential so I can't see many neighbours complaining.

Quite a few wgs and agencies got the round robin email from City Sauna inviting us to work there.I also got a call from the programme producers asking if I would be filmed there.Not for me personally.

I'm not sure how much they charge as I declined their job offer, but often when I drive past they have a board outside saying "Happy hour ?25" Eek!!!
I have heard that a lot of them now do quickies and that one of them charge ?20 for 15 mins, of which ?8 goes to the house!!! Its not City Sauna though.
