Clearly, I prefer punters who would make the immediate payment instead of expecting us to "ask for money", which is not very polite in this industry is it?  :( :-\

If a new client (and sometimes with ones I've seen before) hasn't offered the money within a few minutes I just say "Is it ok if we sort the money out" with a smile. No one has ever said no or seen it as impolite.

This happened to me the other week. He was a regular so wasn't to worried about checking the money as there's never been any problems before

Any how  it seemed to take me forever to get rid of him, but he eventually left 8hours later, when i picked up the money he'd left on the side, it was considerably short!  I worked out he'd paid me ?12 per hour 😬😤
Its been on my mind as to what to do about it, im thinking of invoicing him but i don't really want any hassle to be honest. More than anything im shocked cos i actually thought he was a nice guy... He took up my whole day and i lost ?700 for the privilege #gutted

Same thing happened to me the other day as well! With a regular who left money on the side. I didn't check it until he had gone but luckily unlike you I was only ?20 short! Immediately phoned him to say he didn't leave enough. Was extremely apologetic, saying he didn't realise which I have to believe as he's been a good guy so far, said he will pay it the next time he visits....so we'll see if/when he visits again!

I'm ruthless with my money, even with regulars. I work from hotels now so there's nowhere to hide, I take it off them within 2 minutes of them walking in, check it in front of them with my pen and put it down, but still leave it in view. I think if I was going to get robbed I'd rather they just took that money back rather than hunting about looking for my hiding places (they probably would anyway but just makes me feel a bit better), I hide it once they've left.

I get loads of regulars in a huff about me taking it up front and checking it, one in particular says each visit 'do you not trust me?' No I don't. I don't care if it offends, it saves any confusion or underpayment, or even overpayment.

Had too many clients trying to pull a fast one in the past so I won't change my ways.

Only a couple of times a new guy has happily attempted to pay up front but not had quite enough cash. Excuses about not reading my details etc don't wash with me. I remained polite and upbeat though and what I did was take what they had and make damn sure they did not get the full time they booked.  eg booked an hour but was ?10 short so they got 50 minutes. I am no one's fool.

The second time this happened the guy mentioned at the end when I got off the bed and began "tidying" that his hour was not quite up, I reminded him ever so smiley that his fee was not quite enough.

With regard to leaving the fee on show or in the room, NEVER!

So sorry to hear this Riverprice it is horrible when you realise you have worked for free, I know from experience, it's not ever your fault some clients are opportunistic and will take any opening there is, you have learnt a valuable lesson that is how I look at it to make myself feel better about past encounters.

I hope you've had lots of clients spoil you rotten since and your bank account is now bulging :D
