'Top of the pops.'... Escort style;-)
« on: 09 January 2012, 11:21:32 pm »
Whilst driving home from a tedious 'big shop' at Asda this evening, I was waiting at the traffic lights, wishing I was home, that the shopping was already put away and I was sat in my comfy armchair  watching 'Deal or no deal' ( It's addictive!!)
A song came on the car radio and filtered through my pre-occupied mind. I smiled and then started giggling like anything as my brain registered the words of the song;-) ...
'There's still a little bit of your taste... in my mouth'... Think song title is 'Cannonball' which just adds to the humour!!!
There must be a few 'goodun's out there, so come on, let's hear 'em ladies :D

Yes, it is a beautiful song.
I'm afraid, that I was being a bit playful about the lyrics tho' ;)
I was thinking about our 'job' and the words... 'still a little bit of your taste in my mouth'...

Apologies for my weird sense of humour Redlady1991,
not everyone's cup of tea :-[
Best wishes,
Wiley.xx

It is actually about prossies, so it's bound to be relevant, but the Moulin Rouge version of Lady Marmalade came on at the gym, and I was smirking at the 'Hey sisters, go sisters, better get that dough sisters' line.

Forgive my ignorance, but why is that song about prossies?
I've never heard anyone link the two together.

I've deleted the repetitions and the 'itchy kitchy yaya bits that aren't real words, but this is the chorus and verses. It's about a prossie called Lady Marmalade that picks someone up on the street, in the New orleans French Quarter, and takes him back to her place.

He met Marmalade down in Old New Orleans
Struttin' her stuff on the street
She said "Hello,
Hey Joe, you wanna give it a go?" oh

Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir?
Voulez-vous coucher avec moi?

He sat in her boudoir while she freshened up
The boy drank all her magnolia-wine
On the black satin sheets oh I swear he started to freak

Touching her skin feelin' silky smooth
The colour of cafe au lait
Made the savage beast inside
Roar until it cried, More, More, More

Now he's back home doing 9 to 5
Living his grey flannel life
But when he turns off to sleep
Old memories meet, More, More, More

And an extract from an interview with Patti LaBelle (who originally took the song to the charts)

To anyone paying attention, the song was highly suggestive and it did ruffle some feathers, partly because it seemed to glamorize prostitution. In a 1986 interview with NME Patti LaBelle explained: "That song was taboo. I mean, why sing about a hooker? Why not? I had a good friend who was a hooker, and she died. She never took the mike out of my mouth and I never took the mattress from under her. She was a friend, doing her thing. It'd be like discriminating because you're white and I'm black, or you're gay and someone's straight. I don't believe in separating people. If your job is as a hooker, more power to you."

In the Moulin Rouge/Missy Elliot version, the performers dress as turn-of-the-century(? olden days, anyway!) prostitutes, although that version does have the lyric We independent women, some mistake us for whores
I'm sayin, why spend mine when I can spend yours
in the Lil Kim rap.

Obviously music, like any art form, is open to interpretation, but my money is on Lady M being a prossie  :)

'Dirty Cash' ('Money Talks')

I've no excuse, I just want you to use me
Take me and abuse me
I got no taboos, I'll make a trade with you
Do anything you wa-ant me to

Money talks, mmm-hmm-hmm, money talks
Dirty cash I want you, dirty cash I need you, woh-oh

And there's Easy Money by Ricky Lee Jones

There was a Joe
Leanin' on the back door
A couple Jills with their eyes on a couple bills
Their eyes was statin'
They was waitin'
To get their hands on some easy money

Us working girls are such an inspiration *bats eyelashes*

Apparently Lady GaGa takes inspiration from hookers. Is that a good or bad thing?  ::)

I love Lady Gaga

Me too! It used to be that I liked her music, but wasn't that keen on her (I thought she looked a bit Madonna-wannabe, and I can't stand Madge). Then I read a couple of interviews with her and really liked her. If Lady Gaga was your friend, and you told her you were a prossie, she'd be fine with it  ;D

The song on the ad for "Dior" perfume ALWAYS makes me think of us :D

Heavy Cross, by The Gossip

It's a funny way
To make ends meet
When the lights are out
On every street
It feels alright
But never complete...

And then there's "Private Dancer" by Tina Turner - while it's prolly about a lap dancer, the words very easily relate to escorts and prozzying ;D

How about 'She works hard for the money' by Donna Summer?

No idea of the actual lyrics but the chorus is true. (It's also got a good rhythm if there's no music and you're giving a blow job - I kind of silently sing along to amuse myself.., Sorry, lol, TMI?)

I love reading prossie meanings into lyrics, there's loads out there but typically my mind's gone blank. I think loads of artists do it in the same way lots do about drugs (no one will ever convince me "Rock DJ" isn't, at least partly, about crack). We all know the stars cane the drugs, kind of makes me wonder which ones have worked as/booked hookers! ;D
