Just a heads up, this is on tonight and looks interesting from the trailers.
In the first of a 2-part documentary asking why people buy and sell sex, the actor and writer meets an Exeter housewife who claims to love her line of work, a Mayfair escort who charges ?700 an hour, and the young male prostitutes of the backstreets of Tel Aviv in Israel.
-
Ha, I nearly did this one, but only because I fancied meeting Rupert Everett :D.

Easy, I sell sex for money...

Yes I could give him a 30 minute session at a reduced rate....

It does look interesting although the tagline "housewife who claims to love her work" I find a bit patronising.
-
Cant wait for this, may have to wait and 4OD though!
-
It should be quite genuine and not full of the usual crap as he is well known for wanting escorting to be completely legit. I am pretty sure I also read years ago that he either worked as or used male escort when he was much younger so I doubt it will be sensational crap like they normally are.
He wanted to do this programme so he could basically set right some of the awful stereotypes the media like to portray. Lets hope it doesn't change in the editing room though
-
Escorting is completely legit in the UK. What we do need addressing is for more than one of us to work together from premises etc for our safety.
-
If they ever had me (which they didn't, to be fair) they would have lost me at the title. What on earth would have been wrong with 'Sex for Sale'?
-
After selling a lot of "Love" today in Gatwick I am back in the hotel room in time to watch, with a glass of wine, of course...

The Brazilian - "Juliana" - sounds more Russian ???

Billie Holiday made famous Love For Sale, love was just euphemistic for sex I guess because at the time Sex must have been too taboo a word. No real excuse for euphemism for now but I liked the reference ;) I think they play the song near the end x

How sexy is rupert everet :P

Well I've no shortage of Billie Holiday in the record collection (or Bessie Smith, for that matter) but I admit the link didn't occur to me. I suppose it's because it was being pitched as a contemporary programme about sex work rather than a sentimental one but that would explain the title, even if it doesn't make it any more useful.

How sexy is rupert everet :P
Massively hot! I read his autobiography "Vanished Years", and he comes across as a lovely man.
-
I really enjoyed the programme. Rupert came across very well, some subtle humour there too, and loved the culteral, social and historical references.
-
Just watched.
Fair play to Rupert for laying it out to Rachel Moran. I get she has past issues, but really! Laying all your bitterness on other people isn't the way forward! Judging by all the twitter activity, she is getting alot of stick. She seems to know that she is in a corner but will rot to death with all that angst. She is trying to fix her problems in totally the wrong way and is blaming the program for putting her in a bad light.
I really liked the woman in the window too and how she explained her screening process. It is totally true, my best punters are nothing like my fave people in real life! Neither do I rank my faves by how good they are in bed, but rather their demeanour.
I kinda like the rent boy guy too and how he suggests partners do a bit of sex work so they can form a true opinion.
The 700quid girl needs to get a grip and perhaps adopt a 'less shoes, more stability' lifestyle?! Reminds me of my attitude when I was younger!
The Exeter lady was cool, but most defo not the norm, but fair play to her. She might have to move flat now though!
Will be following the rest of this series with a close eye.
-
I am part way through the 4Seven repeat, and missed the start, but I like the way it doesn't wimp out of showing which sites he is looking at.
Fascinating that he says 'them' so much though. If the autobiography is honest, he will always be a prostitute in UK law, so it should be 'us'.

Couldn't agree more, i was about to post something similar myself but you've hit the nail on the head. I was offended listening to her and knew that others would be too, it's obvious shes had some bad experiences but it's really not fair to criminalize us all and expect us to adopt her mindset.
I really liked the documentary though and will be watching the second one too.

The Brazilian - "Juliana" - sounds more Russian ???
I have shared digs with both Russian and Brazilian girls and a family member is married to a Russian girl. "Juliana" is most definately the former in my opinion.
Strange fib if so? Bit like me pretending I'm a yank for some reason..

loved the program, but hmmm 'clients' next week. It remains be seen...

I think that girls who are putting themselves out at 700 ph are probably expected to dress in a certain way and clients would not expect them to be shopping in Primark, much the same as they would not expect to visit them in a rundown part of town or meet them in a Wetherspoons pub.
Thought the show was better than the usual dross but still did not see that it had much of a point, other than the usual "Sex Sells" for program makers.
The best part was the debate about the new legislation that is trying to be pushed through and should they choose to do a program that would be worthwile then they would organise a full 60 minute debate on the good, bad & ugly of prostitution.

Well the SW who was featured as working as an indie in suburbia will be on the WRIGHT STUFF this coming Monday morning which is MAY DAY the 05/05/14.
Not quite a full on debate but it might be worth a look?
I hoping I will have recovered after a night out to catch it myself.
(I wrote in caps not because Im shouting but just to be clear 8) )

Just watched this. I loved it. It dis asx it was supposed to. That Moran woman tho she made me angry. She seemed to not want to help anyone but punish everyone because of what she has been through. I feel sorry for her really imagine living life with that much negativity about your own past.

One thing that already seems positive is that Russell Brand is being interviewed.
Most non sex industry people seem to think that we see weirdo's all the time, or men that have to pay for sex because they are ugly and useless casanovas. Russell thwarts all of those arguments. This may help lift the stigma for punters....and encourage more to enter the game! 8)

I always thought Russell to be a little weird....
Although I think it will take a lot more than one program to change the way people think, especially if they have other weirdo's being interviewed.

It's a bit of a weird one with me, i want them to shed good light on the job but at the same time i don't want a truck load of girls logging in to adultwork. So i'm sat watching it with my boyfriend now like "Oh that's good they put it like that" & "NOO keep it a secret" getting funny looks haha
-
I really enjoyed this and would have missed it on 4od had I not seen the thread!
I agree with all the comments made about Rachael Moran - I am sorry that she had a bad experience in this industry, and appreciate that this does happen and can be very damaging. However, I think she should work on moving on from the past. Everything about her (not just what she was saying) was so negative. She seemed unwilling to accept that others enjoy this work and that it has been a force for good in their lives. I am in the same boat as Dr Brooke, escorting has enabled me to continue my education and has given me some fantastic experiences.
I thought the male escort in London was lovely, but seemed a little wired.....
Looking forward to next weeks episode!

PS Rupert Everett is gorgeous :-*

Totally agree, I hope the myths are dispelled that we just see complete weirdos, so there's russell and rupert coming forward as clients, let's hope for other normal ones to not be ashamed!

I'll be the first to admit I haven't seen it and don't plan to, but I think you'll find that Rupert's practical experience lies on our side of the fence, not the punters :).
-
Re Rachel Moran.
I don't honestly believe that criminalising the client would prevent the type of experiences she had. Firstly she worked the streets which is illegal for both worker and client, but that being a criminal offence didn't stop either of them doing it. Criminalising the client wouldn't have prevented her from becoming addicted to drugs, which then resulted in her decision to earn money via sex work. It also won't heal any of the hurts. It feels like she is simply wanting to punish any men who pay for sex, as a form of retribution.

Yeah I gathered from what was said here but all I heard him say was that he'd visited prostitutes

What these people fail to do is talk about the fallout of their brainless ideas, what happenes to the girls that rely on working to fund their habbits?
Most surveys show that a large percentage of girls working are vunerable people, but these surveys are missleading due to the information coming from centres that help vunerable people, such as drug clinics.
It is wrong that vunerable people should work as prostitutes through desperation rather than having the choice, but that just indicates that more effort should be put into helping those people.

Turning to prostitution is a symptom of a wider problem for these people. Just as addiction is. Governments spend all there time trying to cure symptoms when really they should be doing more to fight poverty.

So rupert is on again with the final part. Of love for sale can't help but feel he kinda enjoyed participating in that lady's appointment with that sub
-
I love him! My favourite bit is when he's assisting sammy with her webcam show, passing over the bag of sex toys and checking if she needs some lube with that!
Would love rupert as my assistant!
-
I love when he said he didn't give a bleep about the men who buy sex ;D and was more concerned about us!
-
I think he was fantastic, great sense of humour and he played devils advocate better than I've ever seen in a show regarding hookers
-
Am I like the only person who doesn't like him? I just don't warm to his attitude and definitely don't fancy him! I find him too up himself, asking too many unnecessary questions and he sweats all the time, what's that about? LOL!
